The soccer hotbed that is the Flathead Valley has another chance to enjoy the beautiful game. Evergreen State, Carroll College and Spokane Falls Community College come to town Saturday for the Glacier Park College Soccer Showcase at Legends Stadium. “It's been about nine or 10 years since we had men's college teams up here,” Columbia Falls boys soccer coach O’Brien Byrd said. The beautiful game is returning to the Flathead Valley in a big way this weekend. Legends Stadium will host the Glacier Park College Soccer Showcase on Saturday, featuring a triple-header of men's college soccer action with Evergreen State, Carroll College, and Spokane Falls Community College.

This marks a significant moment for the local soccer community. "It's been about nine or ten years since we had men's college teams up here," said Columbia Falls boys soccer coach O'Brien Byrd, highlighting the event's importance. The Valley has recently embraced high-level women's soccer with sellout crowds, and now the men get their turn in the spotlight.

More than just a series of games, the showcase aims to inspire. With support from Discover Kalispell, the event seeks to provide an early spring tourism boost and, crucially, ignite a passion for soccer in Flathead Valley youth. "We have an incredible soccer culture but no real avenue to truly inspire them with high-level soccer unless we bring events like this," Byrd explained.

The team selection is rich with local connections, making the matchups even more compelling for fans. Carroll College, the closest men's program in the state, was a natural first choice. Evergreen State brings a direct hometown link, featuring Columbia Falls alumni Walt Nichols and Finley Sundberg. "Selfishly, I can’t wait to see those boys suit up and play one more time," Byrd admitted. Spokane Falls Community College, which actively recruits in the region, rounded out the competitive field.

The weekend is packed with soccer, pairing Saturday's three games with a Sunday skills clinic led by Carroll College. The best part? Admission to the games is completely free, with tickets available online at gpcss.org. The Sunday clinic has spots open for $50.

Following the successful model of the summer women's showcase, there's strong momentum to make this a new annual tradition for the Valley. In a year buzzing with soccer excitement leading to the 2026 World Cup on U.S. soil, there's no better time to grab your gear and head to Legends Stadium. The action kicks off at 11 a.m., so don't miss your chance to be part of the next chapter for Flathead Valley soccer.
