When Ollie Bearman strapped into his Haas for the 2025 Formula 1 season, he brought with him three impressive cameo appearances—but nothing could fully prepare him for the reality of a full rookie campaign. By the time the checkered flag fell on his debut season, the young Briton had not only outscored his more experienced teammate Esteban Ocon by three points but had also climbed two places above him in the standings to finish 13th. And if his start to 2026 is any indication, Bearman is just getting started.
In a candid new video released by the Haas F1 team, Bearman opened up about the steep learning curve that defined his transition from the junior ranks to the pinnacle of motorsport. The leap from Formula 2 to F1 wasn't just about speed—it was about scale. Gone were the days of a tight-knit F2 crew of 20 people trackside. Suddenly, Bearman found himself surrounded by a trackside team that had more than tripled in size, supported by nearly 400 staff back at the factory.
"It was a big year for myself," Bearman reflected. "And I think it's probably the most learning that I'll ever do in a year because it's my first time stepping into Formula 1—and the last time I ever have that experience."
But the biggest lesson wasn't about handling a faster car or a bigger team. It was about finding his voice. In the junior categories, a driver's job is simple: be fast. In Formula 1, however, the car's development depends almost entirely on the feedback from its driver. That's a responsibility Bearman had to grow into.
"The developments we make on the car directly come as an influence of what we're saying as drivers," he explained. "It's not necessarily a big weight. You need to understand that that's your role because I was not in that role ever before, and it's tough to assume it automatically."
It took time—more than a few races, in fact—for Bearman to fully grasp his new position within the team. "Now I'm someone who's more outgoing, less afraid to speak up and to give my opinion," he said. "Because it's tough to feel like your opinion will be valued straight away. It's just natural that you're coming in as a kid."
For fans and aspiring racers alike, Bearman's journey is a powerful reminder that success in Formula 1 isn't just about raw talent—it's about maturity, communication, and the courage to make your voice heard. And as he continues to build on that foundation, the future looks brighter than ever for Haas's rising star.
