The Ole Miss Rebels are officially on a heater. In a classic Saturday SEC pitchers' duel in Knoxville, No. 25 Ole Miss leaned on clutch pitching and a late offensive explosion to defeat Tennessee 8-1, securing their third consecutive conference series win and extending their winning streak to an impressive eight games.
The story for most of the afternoon was the dominant arms on the mound. Ole Miss sophomore Cade Townsend and Tennessee's Tegan Kuhns were locked in a scoreless battle, combining for 17 strikeouts over the first six innings. Townsend was nearly untouchable, carrying a perfect game into the fifth and a no-hitter into the sixth, ultimately finishing with six scoreless innings.
With the game deadlocked in a tense 0-0 tie, the Rebels' offense finally broke through in the seventh. After reliever Cam Appenzeller walked two, junior second baseman Dom Decker broke the shutout with a sacrifice fly. Sophomore outfielder Hayden Federico added a crucial insurance run in the eighth to make it 2-0.
Then, in the ninth inning, senior outfielder Tristan Bissetta delivered the knockout blow. With the bases loaded, Bissetta launched a backbreaking grand slam—his team-leading 18th homer of the year and his second ninth-inning, road grand slam in SEC play this season—to put the game completely out of reach at 8-1.
The victory marks Ole Miss's 10th win in their last 11 games, improving their record to 29-11 overall and 10-7 in the highly competitive SEC. After taking Friday's opener 7-4, the Rebels have now won eight straight and show no signs of slowing down as they continue to build momentum for the postseason.
