Oh, Hello: South Carolina Running Back Aiden Gibson Commits To Penn State Football

Keep ‘em coming!

Penn State football is on a recruiting roll, and the latest addition to the Nittany Lions' 2027 class is a dynamic playmaker from the Palmetto State. Four-star running back Aiden Gibson has officially committed to Penn State, choosing the blue and white over a host of Power Four programs including South Carolina, Rutgers, Louisville, and North Carolina.

"Thank you Jesus I’M HOME 🏠, ✈️WEARE🦁," Gibson announced, signaling the end of a highly competitive recruitment.

Standing 6-foot-1 and weighing 215 pounds, Gibson brings a powerful yet versatile skill set to Happy Valley. The Woodruff, South Carolina product is rated as a four-star prospect with a .9028 247 composite score, making him one of the more coveted backs in the 2027 cycle.

His junior season stats are nothing short of eye-popping. Gibson rushed 205 times for 1,611 yards (a stellar 7.9 yards per carry) and found the end zone 21 times on the ground. But he's far from a one-dimensional runner—he also hauled in 24 receptions for 387 yards and four touchdowns, averaging 16.1 yards per catch. With a 40-yard dash time of 4.64 seconds, he combines size with enough speed to threaten defenses at all three levels.

Gibson's commitment comes at a crucial time for the Nittany Lions. After losing Kemon Spell to Georgia, Penn State needed to reload at running back. Gibson was one of three primary targets on the staff's board, and his pledge gives the coaching staff flexibility as they decide whether to take one or two running backs in this class.

Scouts praise Gibson as a complete, well-rounded prospect with excellent size, reliable hands, and proven production. While there's room to refine his footwork and technique as he transitions to the college game, the Nittany Lions' current backfield depth should allow him time to develop without being rushed into the fire. With the competition level about to rise significantly, Gibson's blend of power and pass-catching ability makes him an ideal fit for Penn State's offensive scheme.
