NORFOLK, Va. (COURTESY OF ODU ATHLETICS) – #53 Old Dominion men’s tennis travels to Winston-Salem, North Carolina, to challenge Gardner-Webb in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.
The Monarchs play the Runnin’ Bulldogs on May 1 at 2 p.m., and with a win, the team plays either top seed Wake Forest or Navy.
ODU enters NCAA play after claiming its fourth-straight Sun Belt Conference Championship on April 19, where freshman Zech Hamrouni downed his Troy opponent on court five, 6-1, 5-7, 6-2, to clinch the victory. He is the third-straight freshman to claim the conference championship for Old Dominion.
The Monarchs are 20-6 on the season and are one of 29 teams to play in the NCAA tournament for four consecutive years.
#60 Old Dominion women’s tennis will face Tennessee in the first round of the NCAA Tournament on Friday, May 1 in Durham, North Carolina.
The Monarchs face Tennessee on May 1 at 1 p.m., and with a win, the team will compete against Duke or VCU in the second round.
ODU is coming off its sixth-straight conference championship, including fourth-straight in the Sun Belt, where the team allowed just one point throughout three matches in the tournament. The Monarchs enter the NCAA Tournament with a 13-5 record.
Old Dominion is one of 21 teams to make the NCAA tournament seven-straight times.
