There's a reckoning due in Denver after a stunning first-round playoff loss to a Minnesota Timberwolves.

The Denver Nuggets are facing a pivotal offseason after a shocking first-round playoff exit at the hands of the Minnesota Timberwolves—a series the Wolves controlled even while missing stars Anthony Edwards and Donte Divincenzo for significant stretches.

According to multiple reports, the shakeup won't start on the sidelines. Head coach David Adelman is expected to return next season, as confirmed by the Denver Post's Bennett Durando and ESPN's Shams Charania. However, the roster itself is a different story. Outside of three-time MVP Nikola Jokić, every player on the Nuggets' roster could be available in trade talks this summer.

That includes Jamal Murray, Jokić's trusted backcourt partner and the co-architect of Denver's 2023 championship run. The Nuggets are reportedly willing to listen to offers for anyone not named Jokić, signaling a major retooling effort to build a contender around their superstar center while he remains in his prime.

Jokić himself is expected to sign a four-year, roughly $290 million extension this offseason, locking him in as the franchise cornerstone. The pressure is now on Denver to surround him with reliable talent after a disappointing postseason exit exposed the team's lack of depth.

This isn't the first time the Nuggets have tried to retool. Last offseason, after a seven-game second-round loss to the eventual champion Oklahoma City Thunder, Denver traded Michael Porter Jr. in an effort to bolster their bench. Unfortunately, that depth rarely materialized when it mattered most.

Injuries only made things worse. Peyton Watson missed the entire Minnesota series with a hamstring injury, and Aaron Gordon sat out Games 3, 5, and 6 with a calf strain, capping a season where he played just 36 regular-season games. As the Timberwolves took control of the series, Denver's bench rotation struggled to find consistent production, leaving Jokić and Murray visibly exhausted by the fourth quarter.

Both stars turned in arguably the worst playoff performances of their careers against a relentless Minnesota defense. Now, the Nuggets must decide how to reshape their roster around Jokić—and whether that means parting ways with familiar faces to chase another title.
