In the wake of a painful 2-1 home defeat to Leeds United, a result that marked the club's first loss at Old Trafford under Michael Carrick and Leeds' first win there since 1981, Manchester United's performance offered little consolation. However, amidst the collective disappointment, one Red Devil's individual effort did not go unnoticed.

While Bruno Fernandes battled to create chances, it was the veteran midfielder Casemiro who earned a spot in the BBC Sport Team of the Week, as selected by pundit Troy Deeney. The Brazilian was United's sole goalscorer on the night, rising to meet a Fernandes cross with a powerful header in the 69th minute to briefly give his side hope.

That goal was a bright spot in a difficult match and highlighted a potent partnership; it was the sixth time this season Casemiro has scored from a Fernandes assist, the most prolific duo in the Premier League. More impressively, the strike took Casemiro to eight goals for the campaign, a personal best in what is expected to be his final season with the club.

Explaining his selection, Deeney praised the midfielder's standout performance, noting, "Even though he was on the losing side, he was excellent against Leeds... He was Man Utd’s biggest focal point in the attack and had one cleared off the line. He was very, very good."

The defeat leaves United third in the table but with momentum stalled, having taken just four points from their last four matches. The path doesn't get easier, with crucial fixtures against Chelsea, Brentford, and rivals Liverpool looming. For now, Casemiro's resilient display serves as a rare positive in a result that will sting for some time.
