The No. 3 Northern Huskies delivered an offensive clinic, defeating Southern 11-2 in a statement Western Maryland Athletic Conference victory. Northern's bats were hot from the start, plating three runs in both the first and second innings to seize early control.
Freshman Ava Wilhelm sparked the initial rally with a two-run triple, setting the tone for a Huskies lineup that consistently capitalized on opportunities. Northern put the game out of reach with a five-run explosion in the sixth inning, a rally fueled by key hits and Southern defensive miscues.
Northern's success was a complete team effort. Pitcher Rain Ritchey was dominant in the circle, throwing a complete-game gem with 11 strikeouts while also contributing three hits and two RBIs at the plate. Freshman Camilya Burley shined brightly, notching a career-high three hits and proving her mettle in the lineup.
“That was the best I’ve seen that team hit,” said Northern head coach Kadi Cosgrove, praising her team's focused approach. “We’ve been really working on hitting in practice… and we were ready for it.”
The win underscores the importance of momentum and execution. Northern’s aggressive start and ability to add on runs late demonstrate the confidence that comes from preparation—a lesson for any athlete striving to perform under pressure. For Southern, the search for consistency continues after a game defined by stranded runners and defensive struggles.
