In just two short years, the North Bay Haven boys volleyball program has gone from a mere concept to a history-making powerhouse. For the first time ever, a Bay County team has punched its ticket to the state playoffs—and they're doing it in only their second season of existence.

Head coach Emersonn Cabatu knows that building a winning team starts with building character. "We have to grow the characters of the game, the characters of people that are playing the game—that's why I call them gentlemen," Cabatu said. "We need more gentlemen in this world, not just boys becoming men. The gentlemen have certain types of character, posture, and a way they carry themselves."

Last season, the team came agonizingly close to postseason glory, finishing just outside the top eight. "We were number nine or 10 out of the top eight," Cabatu recalled. But this year, the dedication paid off. "It is an accomplishment for the boys to dedicate themselves to the craft and make themselves better."

Now, with a state playoff berth secured, the focus shifts to the road ahead. The first test comes against Bartram Trail, but Cabatu is already thinking bigger. "It's just an overwhelming achievement for them and an overwhelming feeling of pride for the guys that are actually going to play this game and try to beat Bartram Trail on Thursday. And then once again, our arch nemesis, Gulf Breeze hopefully, and maybe even Choctawhatchee."

Key players have stepped up all season long. Senior Fischer Pittman has been a force on offense, earning high praise from his coach. "Fischer Pittman has just been a stalwart of a workforce for our scoring prowess," Cabatu said. "His ability to bring the ball down and his development to not only hit the ball hard, but now with intellect and more precision—that's what sets him apart."

As North Bay Haven prepares to make history on the court, one thing is clear: this team isn't just playing for a win—they're building a legacy. Whether you're a player, a fan, or just love a good underdog story, this is the kind of championship spirit that inspires us all to gear up and play our best.
