Nomination a 'privilege' for McGlynn - but McInnes his top manager pick

Falkirk boss John McGlynn says his manager of the year nomination is recognition for the entire club. McGlynn is in the running to win the Managers and Coaches Association of Scotland Manager of the Year award for a third consecutive season after following successive promotions by leading the Bairns into the top six of the Premiership. McGlynn thinks McInnes should win the award but is surprised Motherwell's Jens Berthel Askou wasn't on the shortlist.

Falkirk manager John McGlynn has described his nomination for the Manager of the Year award as a "privilege" – but insists the credit belongs to everyone at the club. Currently in contention to win the Managers and Coaches Association of Scotland Manager of the Year award for a third consecutive season, McGlynn has led the Bairns from successive promotions all the way into the Premiership's top six. A remarkable achievement by any standard.

McGlynn is joined on the shortlist by Hearts' Derek McInnes and Stenhousemuir's Gary Naysmith. Yet while he's humbled by the recognition, McGlynn believes McInnes should take home the trophy. He also expressed surprise that Motherwell's Jens Berthel Askou wasn't included among the final nominees.

Speaking ahead of Falkirk's clash with Motherwell on Saturday, the 64-year-old said: "It's a privilege and an honour – especially when your fellow managers are the ones voting for you. But it's all due to the work done behind the scenes and on the pitch. Managers don't get nominated unless the players are doing the business, along with the whole backroom staff. I'm getting the recognition, but it's recognition for the entire football club."

McGlynn added: "I've heard people say we've been a breath of fresh air. I think we've brought something to the Premiership, just as we did to the Championship and League One before that. As for Motherwell, they've been outstanding – absolutely outstanding. Their football team is fantastic, and the manager has done a great job turning things around in a very short time. It's quite topical that Jens hasn't made the nominations."

Revealing his own votes, McGlynn said: "You get two votes, and I voted for Derek McInnes and Jens. If I get beat by one, I'll be kicking myself – only kidding! But I think Derek has done a great job. To be there for so long, for me, it has to be Derek McInnes."
