In a move that brings his basketball journey full circle, former Purdue guard Aaron Fine has committed to transfer to Ball State University. The Noblesville native and Indiana All-Star will join new Cardinals head coach Chris Capko's inaugural roster, returning to a region steeped in his family's hardwood legacy.
Fine, who was the lone transfer departure from Matt Painter's Purdue program this offseason, brings three seasons of remaining eligibility to Muncie. After redshirting the 2024-25 season, the walk-on guard saw action in nine games for the Boilermakers, scoring in six of them and showcasing efficient shooting at a 50% clip.
This transfer is a true homecoming. Fine's father, Matt, was a prominent figure in the area's basketball scene, coaching Muncie Central for a decade. During his tenure, he led the Bearcats to six sectional titles and two appearances in the IHSAA Class 4A state finals before moving to nearby Winchester High School. For Aaron, suiting up for Ball State is a return to his childhood roots and a chance to build his own legacy in a familiar basketball community.
For Ball State fans and followers of Indiana hoops, this is an intriguing roster addition by Coach Capko. Fine gains an opportunity for increased playing time in the MAC conference, while bringing valuable experience from a top-tier Big Ten program that consistently competes at the highest level. It's a fresh start for the guard in a very familiar setting.
