Grass-court season has always been a bit of a hurdle for Alexander Zverev.

He’s picked up 24 ATP Tour titles over his career, but none have come on grass.

He’s never made it past the fourth round at Wimbledon and has generally struggled to find his best form there.

This year, though, Zverev will be hoping to change that story.

According to tennis journalist Michal Samulski, Alexander Zverev is expected to take part in the Stuttgart Open title later this year.

Zverev has been joined by Nick Kyrgios, Taylor Fritz, Matteo Berrettini, Jan-Lennard Struff, Frances Tiafoe, Tommy Paul and Justin Engel according to Samulski’s report on X [formerly Twitter].

Fritz enters as the defending champion after beating Zverev in last year’s final.

Following his 3-6, 6-7 defeat to Fritz in the 2025 final, Zverev joked about being ‘tired’ of facing the American.

“I’m tired of you, I don’t want to see you over the next two or three years – stay away from me,” Zverev said during the post-match ceremony.

Fritz didn’t drop serve once during the tournament and was clearly pleased with his performance in Germany.

“I’m really happy, especially as it was not too great of a clay season,” Fritz said.

With Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic both pulling out, Alexander Zverev has a clear path to potentially winning his third Madrid Open title.

The 29-year-old is seeded second in the Spanish capital and has received a bye through to the second round.

His opening match will be against either Nuno Borges or Mariano Navone, depending on how the first round unfolds. If he progresses, he could face Ugo Humbert in the third round and Karen Khachanov in the fourth.

Zverev will be looking to tap into the same level of play that brought him titles in Madrid back in 2018 and 2021.

But if he’s going to win again this year, he’ll likely have to get past Jannik Sinner — something that hasn’t gone his way recently. Zverev has lost his last eight meetings with Sinner, stretching back to Cincinnati in 2024.
