The NHRA Southern Nationals delivered an electrifying weekend of drag racing at South Georgia Motorsports Park, where a sellout crowd witnessed history in the making. After breaking the 345-mph barrier on Friday—the fastest pass in NHRA history—Shawn Langdon capped off his incredible weekend with a victory in Top Fuel, defeating his teammate Doug Kalitta in the final round. Langdon’s 3.808-second pass at 333.16 mph in his 12,000-horsepower Kalitta Air dragster secured his second win of the season and moved him into the points lead, just ahead of Kalitta, who sits four points back.

But the action didn’t stop there. Jordan Vandergriff roared to victory in Funny Car, Dallas Glenn dominated in Pro Stock, and Matt Smith powered his way to the win in Pro Stock Motorcycle, making the fifth race of the 2026 NHRA Mission Foods Drag Racing Series season one for the books. For Langdon, the win was especially sweet after his record-breaking speed run. “This is very satisfying,” he said. “It’s always a good weekend when you can wake up and feel like you can win. A lot of hard work went into the offseason, and it’s paying big dividends right now.”

Langdon’s path to the final wasn’t easy—he had to check his ego and adapt to changing track conditions after his historic 345-mph blast. “You have to understand that you have to make changes and take what the racetrack gives you,” he explained. Despite not hitting the tree perfectly in the final, Langdon and his team showed remarkable consistency, defeating Cam Ferre, Antron Brown, and Clay Millican along the way. Kalitta, the reigning world champion and No. 1 qualifier, also impressed, reaching the finals for the third time this season after taking down Leah Pruett. With the season heating up, this Southern Nationals victory sets the stage for an intense battle ahead.
