Stop me when you’ve heard this one before: an LSU defensive back was selected in the top-10 of the NFL Draft.
Mansoor Delane made his one and only season in Baton Rouge count: he was a Thorpe Award finalist, a unanimous All-American selection, and now he can add No. 6 overall pick to his résumé. Delane was picked sixth overall by the Kansas City Chiefs in Thursday night’s draft.
Just how much did Kansas City covet Delane? The Chiefs traded up from the No. 9 spot and sent a third and fifth round pick to Cleveland in order to move up three spots and select Delane.
Delane is the first LSU defensive back to be selected in the first round since Derek Stingley Jr. went third overall to Houston in the 2022 NFL Draft. This past season at LSU, Delane had 45 tackles, 11 pass breakups, and a pair of interceptions.
