The University of Wisconsin is wasting no time in its search for a new athletic director, assembling a powerhouse search committee that reads like a who's-who of professional sports front offices. With the goal of having a new leader in place by this summer, the Badgers are looking to bring in top-tier talent to steer their athletic department into the future.
On May 12, the university announced it has partnered with CSA Search and Consulting to lead the hunt for Chris McIntosh's successor. But what really turns heads is the nine-person committee tasked with making the call. It's a lineup that any sports fan would envy, featuring some of the most successful former Badgers now making waves in the NFL, NBA, and NHL.
Leading the charge is Lauren Bishop, a UW professor and faculty athletics representative who will chair the committee. Joining her are Indianapolis Colts general manager Chris Ballard, Dallas Mavericks co-interim general manager Michael Finley, and New Jersey Devils director of player development Meghan Duggan. All three are former UW athletes who have gone on to stellar careers in their respective sports—Ballard as a football standout, Finley as a basketball legend, and Duggan as a hockey icon.
"It is vitally important we hear from a variety of voices on the qualities we should be seeking in a new director," Bishop said in a statement. "To achieve that goal, the committee will spend the next several weeks seeking feedback from student-athletes, athletic department coaches and staff, alumni and other stakeholders."
For Badgers fans and alumni, this committee signals a commitment to excellence that extends beyond the field. With decision-makers who have built championship-caliber teams in the pros, Wisconsin is clearly aiming high. Whether you're gearing up for game day or just love the energy of a new era, this is a moment worth watching—and wearing your Badgers pride.
