Denver Broncos head coach Sean Payton has always liked a running back room that is loaded with options. He may finally have one in Denver.
The Broncos needed a running back in the 2026 NFL Draft and that should have been one of the team's top priorities. In the fourth round, with pick No. 108, they determined that they could not pass up on Jonah Coleman. A compact runner who has been compared to Maurice Jones-Drew, the Broncos may have found tremendous value.
Coleman is better than anyone realizes as a receiver out of the backfield and his pass protection is what will set him apart in the NFL. Take a look at him taking on Sonny Styles, one of the top picks in this year's draft.
Earlier this month, NFL Draft expert Todd McShay had some huge praise for the Broncos' new running back.

"I think that the guy that everyone's sleeping on, at this point... it was like a hot name early... I look at Jonah Coleman and I watch his run style, after I watched all the running backs, I came back and I watched him. He's a bowling ball, he's got these light feet, he always runs with pad level, he wears you down, he brings this energy to an offense. I think in a running back class that's not like a year ago when we had 26 guys go, six in the first three rounds, 20 on day three, I think he'll probably fall to the fourth round, and I think a team is gonna get a starter. I really think he's gonna be that kind of player", said McShay.
Jones-Drew was the original bowling ball in the NFL. Looking around social media following this selection by the Broncos, you see that descriptive term connected to Coleman quite a bit.
Selected in the second round in 2006, Jones-Drew rushed for over 8,000 yards in his career, bouncing off and running over tacklers. If the Broncos have anything close to that in Coleman, there should be high fives all around the war room.
During last year's postseason, the running game failed the Broncos. In the AFC Championship Game against New England, Broncos running backs gained just 55 yards on 19 carries. The week before, in a win over Buffalo, running backs gained just 41 yards on the ground.

Having a player like Coleman would have sent the Broncos to the Super Bowl last year. The Broncos feel that this team is capable of winning a Super Bowl with a few alterations, and Coleman was clearly chosen to be one of those alterations.
