Unless Sean Payton gets greedy and wants to trade up, patience will be required.
Thanks to the Jaylen Waddle trade, Denver is without a first-round pick, which means their draft officially begins tomorrow and our fun is delayed another 24 hours.
The Broncos won’t be on the clock in the second round until their first pick at No. 62 overall – the 30th pick for the day.
Round 2 kicks off at 5 p.m. Mile High Time, and with seven minutes per pick, you can do the rough math. Research shows that the team average for time per pick in this round, however, is reportedly about 4.5 minutes.
That means TJ Ward is likely on stage to announce the pick about two-and-a-half hours after the start of the draft, making 7:20-7:45 p.m. the likely window.
So grab a beer and maybe your Bingo card to see if the Broncos choose an inside linebacker or a tight end.
But mostly keep tabs on how the other AFC rivals are doing.
FanDuel odds aren’t particularly high on the Broncos winning the AFC West, despite making it to the AFC Championship game last season (and likely would have gone to the Super Bowl if not for a freak injury to Bo Nix and freak weather the second half of the game against the Patriots.)
Even without a first-round pick, Denver will get better this weekend and I see more playoffs in the Broncos’ immediate future. Maybe another one of these too…
