Kansas City Chiefs fans, get ready to hear Mansoor Delane's name a lot in the coming years. NFL analyst Tom Blair has already pegged the rookie defensive back as a potential star, listing him among ten first-year players poised for immediate and long-term success.
Blair didn't hold back his praise, writing that Delane brings a rare combination of elite talent, a top-10 draft pedigree, and the perfect landing spot. "Delane's got it all," Blair noted. "He lands with a stable coaching staff, a competitive roster, and a team that knows how to develop young defensive backs." He highlighted the Chiefs' tough 2025 season but emphasized that with Andy Reid and defensive mastermind Steve Spagnuolo still at the helm—and Patrick Mahomes eventually returning from injury—the organization is built to contend again. "In the meantime, Delane can step into the role of successful young star DB that has been well established in K.C. by the likes of Trent McDuffie and L'Jarius Sneed," Blair added.
Delane's college résumé backs up the hype. At LSU, he started 11 games and led the team with 11 pass breakups, finishing with 45 tackles and 2 interceptions. His ball-hawking skills earned him a spot as a finalist for the Jim Thorpe Award, given to the nation's top defensive back, and he ranked tied for ninth in the FBS with 1.2 passes defensed per game.
The timing couldn't be better for Delane's arrival. Kansas City is retooling its secondary after losing key players like Trent McDuffie, Jaylen Watson, and Bryan Cook early in the offseason. Delane is expected to be a cornerstone of that revamped unit heading into the 2026 season, giving Chiefs fans plenty of reason to watch this young star closely.
