There was something of a shocker on the second night of the 2026 NFL draft when the Pittsburgh Steelers selected Penn State quarterback Drew Allar in the third round. Even the video of Allar went viral when the lifelong Browns fan had to put on that Steelers hat and swear allegiance to a team he probably hated growing up.

But when Allar spoke to Missi Matthews of the Steelers official site, it was all positive about coming to Pittsburgh and what he called the Steelers "brand" in the NFL. Allar also noted that his connection to Steelers quarterbacks coach Tom Arth is important as well.

Arth was the head coach at Akron when Allar was coming out of high school and Allar noted that Arth actually tried to recruit him there.

The Steelers are banking on Allar to develop into the team's next great franchise quarterback. Even if Aaron Rodgers comes back, we expect a heated quarterback battle between Allar and second-year quarterback Will Howard.
