The Brooklyn Nets received the No. 6 pick in the 2026 NBA Draft and general manager Sean Marks have his reaction to that outcome.

The Brooklyn Nets faced a moment of truth at the NBA Draft Lottery on Sunday, and the basketball gods didn't exactly smile on them. Despite entering with a 14.0% chance at the coveted No. 1 overall pick in the 2026 NBA Draft, the Nets slid to the No. 6 spot—a twist that has the franchise recalibrating its summer strategy.

General Manager Sean Marks, ever the steady hand, didn't mince words when asked about the outcome. "Hard to tell. I think it's all about how these guys develop, right? I don't think you want to make rash decisions before you've seen how they look," Marks told reporters, including ClutchPoints' Erik Slater. "We've got optionality, we've maintained flexibility, we've got the cap space and assets. So I think the word would be opportunistic."

The drop means Brooklyn will miss out on the draft's top-tier talents like BYU forward AJ Dybantsa and Kansas guard Darryn Peterson—players widely seen as potential game-changers. But Marks isn't hitting the panic button. "Every draft there's a guy who people didn't quite expect to be that high if you do the re-draft," he noted. "For us, it'll still be about having patience."

That patience will be tested as the NBA Combine kicks off this week in Chicago, giving the Nets a front-row seat to evaluate prospects who might still be on the board at No. 6. While Duke's Cameron Boozer, North Carolina's Caleb Wilson, and other top names are likely out of reach, the Nets could pivot toward guards like Arkansas' Darius Acuff Jr. or Illinois' Keaton Wagler—players who might surprise scouts and become the draft's hidden gems.

For a team in rebuild mode, the No. 6 pick isn't a consolation—it's an opportunity. As Marks put it, being "opportunistic" means finding value where others see a setback. The Nets have cap space, flexibility, and now a clear target. The hard part? Choosing the right player to wear the black and white.
