Wessel Nijman is building a serious case for player of the season, completing a stunning hat-trick of Pro Tour titles with a dominant 8-2 victory over Scott Waites in the Players Championship 10 final. The Dutchman's clinical performance in Wigan capped off a midweek double-header and solidified his status as the man to beat on the circuit.

Nijman, who had already triumphed in Players Championship events Two and Eight this year, was in imperious form throughout Tuesday. He navigated a tough path to the final, dispatching Martin Lukeman, Justin Hood, Adam Gawlas, Niels Zonneveld, Beau Greaves, and Luke Woodhouse. This set the stage for a showdown with the resurgent Waites, a former Grand Slam champion.

The final was a masterclass in control from the top seed. Nijman raced into a 2-0 lead with legs of 16 and 15 darts, setting an intimidating pace. After Waites briefly halted the charge to make it 2-1, Nijman slammed the door shut, reeling off five consecutive legs to surge to a commanding 7-1 lead. A solitary leg from Waites was merely a consolation before Nijman sealed his seventh senior PDC title with another 15-darter.

Waites' run to the final was impressive in its own right, featuring wins over heavy hitters like Damon Heta and Joe Cullen. However, he had no answer for Nijman's relentless scoring and finishing on the day. The victory marks a third Pro Tour crown in 2026 for the Dutch star, a remarkable feat that speaks to his consistency and nerve under pressure.

In other action, Monday's winner Chris Dobey and Challenge Tour leader Joe Hunt reached the quarter-finals, while several big names, including Danny Noppert, Rob Cross, and Michael Smith, suffered surprise first-round exits. The Pro Tour action continues later this month in Milton Keynes, where another £300,000 in prize money will be up for grabs across two more events.
