Nebraska has landed another transfer recruit, this time in Sophomore Taj Degourville. The 6’5” 215-pound guard comes from San Diego State, where he played in 33 games last season. He averaged 5.5 points, 2.8 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 0.8 steals per game last year while playing just over 19 minutes a game. He shot 37% from the floor, 35% from deep and 66% from the free-throw line.

He will have 2 years of eligibility remaining (possibly 3 pending a future NCAA ruling). He will be a good addition to the team, adding depth at guard, which will be big in case something happens (much like Connor Essegian’s injury last year). He also is a solid player off the bench, which Nebraska won a few games last year because the bench picked up the slack.

Fred Hoiberg is doing a solid job of making sure the locker room has good character, and he will be another one of those guys. I see him in the Cale Jacobsen role, coming off the bench to spell the point or shooting guard. His stats might not be overly flashy, but he will find a place within this team to be a contributor. He has a solid assist to turnover ratio, which will be crucial in close games where he plays late.

The Husker basketball roster is slowly taking shape. If you think the football transfer portal is out of hand, it appears that basketball might not be too far behind it. You might not recognize most of the players on the roster by the time next year starts, but if it is anything like last year’s bunch, they will be a lot of fun to watch.
