The Huskers go back on the road

Nebraska Baseball is hitting the road again, and this weekend's destination is Columbus, Ohio, for a pivotal Big Ten showdown with the Ohio State Buckeyes. The #16 ranked Huskers (34-11, 17-4 B1G) are looking to keep their conference dominance rolling, having lost just one series all season. That sole blemish came against a veteran squad with a seasoned coaching staff—something Ohio State (21-21, 10-11 B1G) currently lacks.

The Buckeyes are in a rebuilding phase under second-year head coach Justin Haire. After a previous coaching staff overhaul led to a mass exodus of players, Haire—a proven program builder from Campbell University—is slowly turning things around. He brought in his top assistants from his Campbell days, and after being picked to finish last in the conference, Ohio State has climbed to .500 overall and notched three Big Ten series wins. Still, this is a team that's finding its footing, not one that's fully established.

For the Huskers, this series is a chance to replicate the road success they found last week against Illinois. Nebraska has been nearly unstoppable in conference play, and they'll face a Buckeyes squad that, while more competitive than expected, doesn't boast the same veteran savvy that gave the Huskers trouble earlier this season.

Adding to the atmosphere, Ohio State is hosting "Western Weekend" at Bill Davis Stadium, complete with a petting zoo and mechanical bull. But the Huskers will be all business as they aim to keep their grip on the Big Ten lead. First pitch is Friday at 5 p.m. CDT, with games Saturday at 6 p.m. and Sunday at 1 p.m. All action can be heard on the Huskers Radio Network.
