Arizona men's tennis is making it look routine—and that's a great problem to have. For the sixth straight season, the Wildcats have punched their ticket past the first round of the NCAA Tournament, this time with a dominant 4-0 sweep over Northern Arizona University on Friday at the LaNelle Robson Tennis Center.

The eighth-seeded Wildcats (22-4) wasted no time asserting their dominance, wrapping up the match in under 90 minutes. Jay Friend, Filip Gustafsson, and Alejandro Arcila each delivered straight-set singles victories, while the team also secured the crucial doubles point to set the tone early.

"Getting to the second round of the NCAA Tournament is no slouch," said head coach Clancy Shields. "But to get a one seed, to play the four seed in the regional is huge. I'm happy we got through today. We're gonna have a war with Clemson tomorrow, and they looked awesome today."

That war is set for Saturday at 1 p.m. PT, and it promises to be a battle. Clemson (17-12) earned its spot in dramatic fashion, needing three-set wins from its No. 1 and No. 5 singles players to outlast Ole Miss in a nearly three-hour marathon. The Tigers and Wildcats actually met back in January at a "Hidden Dual" event in Florida, where the two teams split eight singles matches and Arizona claimed four of five doubles contests.

Shields knows his team will need to elevate their game. "It's gonna be an absolute war, and if we don't bring our best, then we won't get through," he said. "I think our team, they're ready for this, but we're gonna need to play a little better than we did today."

A win on Saturday would send Arizona to its fourth consecutive Sweet 16—and for the first time, they'd have the home-court advantage to do it. The Wildcats' regional is lined up against the one hosted by No. 9 Oklahoma, so the stakes couldn't be higher. For a program that's made a habit of advancing, this might be the most exciting chapter yet.
