The NBA said it fined Charlotte Hornets’ LaMelo Ball $35,000 after what he allegedly did during the team’s win against the Miami Heat on Tuesday night.

The NBA has issued a significant fine to Charlotte Hornets star LaMelo Ball, totaling $60,000, following two separate incidents during a critical Play-In Tournament victory. The league's action underscores its emphasis on player conduct both on and off the court.

The bulk of the fine, $35,000, stems from an on-court play during Tuesday night's dramatic 127-126 overtime win against the Miami Heat. With 11:13 remaining in the second quarter, Ball was involved in a trip on Heat center Bam Adebayo. The league later reviewed and upgraded the contact to a Flagrant Foul. Had this upgrade occurred during the game, Ball would have faced immediate ejection, a scenario that could have drastically altered the game's outcome.

Ironically, Ball was the hero in overtime, sinking the game-winning basket to secure the Hornets' season-extending victory. However, his post-game conduct led to a second penalty. The NBA levied an additional $25,000 fine for Ball's use of profanity during a live televised interview, a reminder of the league's broadcast decorum standards.

With the win, the Hornets advance to another elimination game Friday night. They will face the loser of the matchup between the Orlando Magic and Philadelphia 76ers, keeping their playoff hopes alive. For Ball and the Hornets, maintaining focus and composure under this heightened pressure will be as crucial as any highlight-reel play.
