BOSTON -- In the NBA Playoffs, teams always need a role player to step up and produce in order to turn the tide in any series. The Philadelphia 76ers might have found that player in the form of Quentin Grimes.

Grimes was fantastic in Tuesday's 113-97 Game 5 win over the Boston Celtics. The 5-year guard out of Houston scored 18 points and knocked down four big 3-pointers to help the Sixers get the job done. Philadelphia doesn't win this game without his production on a big night off the bench.

"It's huge, man," Tyrese Maxey said. "We know we need Q. We know we needed Q all season. He's been good all season. He's done a good job of just playing his role, sticking with it. He's had multiple roles. He started, he came off the bench, but tonight, he just did a good job of just defending. He just guarded his tail off the entire night, and that was really good for us, man. We really needed him to do that. He made shots, bro. He shot shots and he made shots, and that was big time."

It wasn't a great start for Grimes as he committed a bad turnover that led to a Celtics bucket while also having some tough defensive possessions. Following that initial stint, he got going. He drilled a big 3-pointer while being fouled and allowed him to get going as he helped the Sixers win this one.

"First of all, I thought he had a little different confidence to him, for one thing," coach Nick Nurse stated. "He kind of saw one go in and then I think Jo (Joel Embiid) found him a little bit from post up and out. Tyrese did a good job of play calling for him as well, and it was a huge lift, because, I think it lifted him, personally on the other end too, because he had a couple really good defensive possessions and that was good."

It's hugely important for Grimes to knock down those open looks. When the Celtics decide to double-team Embiid, that is when he is going to look for outlets which then opens the door for Grimes. He was instrumental for Philadelphia on the night.

"Q was huge," Embiid explained. "I mean, we need everything we can get. So, obviously us, starting with me, gotta do our job, and then everybody else, whether that’s Q, guys coming off the bench, Kelly. Those guys got to come in, be aggressive. I mean, Q was all that. Big shots after big shots. Especially, in the third quarter, closing out the game. Obviously, he's great defensively, and spacing. He just helps with the spacing. Now, you got to make a decision whether it’s double me, which they’re probably still gonna do, and we just trust him to knock down those wide open shots, and he did that."

Now, the Sixers will need it again on Thursday in Game 6.
