Motherwell captain Gill Inglis has announced she will retire from football at the end of the season, describing the moment as a "strange mix of emotions."

The 35-year-old defender has been a cornerstone of the Scottish Women's Premier League for nearly two decades, spending the last seven seasons as Motherwell's captain. Under her leadership, the club achieved its highest-ever league finish and made two Scottish Cup semi-final appearances—milestones that will forever be part of her legacy.

Inglis admitted the decision wasn't an easy one, but after the birth of her son Louie, she felt the time was right to step away. "It's probably a strange mix of emotions all hitting at once," she said. "On one hand, I'm looking forward to finishing because I've always known this would be my final season, but at the same time, it's quite surreal to think that something I've done every day for decades is suddenly about to end forever."

"It definitely wasn't an easy decision as my love for the game is as strong as ever. I think when you've been involved in the game as long as I have, there comes a point where you just know in yourself that the time is right. Football has given me so much and I've loved every minute, but physically and mentally, I feel this is the right moment to step away."

Reflecting on her career, Inglis paid tribute to those who supported her journey. "I'd also like to thank every team-mate, coach and member of staff that I've had the pleasure of working with throughout my career. They've had a huge impact on me and helped shape me as a player and a person. I've been so lucky to work with some incredible people. Thank you for everything, football."

As she prepares for her final matches, Inglis leaves behind a legacy of leadership, resilience, and dedication that will inspire the next generation of players. For fans and teammates alike, her impact on the pitch and in the locker room will be remembered long after she hangs up her boots.
