The University of North Dakota hockey program is about to get a whole lot more familial. For the first time since the 2016-17 season, when Tucker and Colton Poolman shared the ice, brothers will be teammates for the Fighting Hawks.
Forward Gavin Lindberg is transferring from Colorado College to UND, where he will be united with his younger brother, Garrett, an incoming freshman defenseman. This move not only creates a special family moment but also brings a proven, versatile scorer to Grand Forks.
Lindberg is coming off a strong sophomore campaign at Colorado College, where he netted six goals and 21 points in 36 games, finishing the season on the Tigers' second line. His all-around game is impressive; he logged heavy minutes (averaging 18:46 per game), tied for the team lead in plus-minus (+9), and was a fixture on both the penalty kill and power play units.
His arrival is timely for UND, helping to bolster the forward depth chart following recent departures to the transfer portal. The coaching staff is already very familiar with his skillset, as Lindberg played under UND associate head coach Matt Smaby in both the USHL with Waterloo and at the World Junior A Challenge.
Standing at 6-foot and 195 pounds, Lindberg's versatility to play center or wing makes him a valuable two-way addition. He marks the second key pickup from the transfer portal this offseason for the Fighting Hawks, joining defenseman Brasen Boser, as the team continues to build its roster for the challenges ahead.
