This is the Maryland Minute, a short story followed by a roundup of Terps-related news.

Maryland football is gearing up for a busy week on the recruiting trail, as the Terrapins are set to host former Virginia Military Institute (VMI) linebacker Stephen Dean for an official visit on Monday and Tuesday. This move signals the program's intent to bolster depth at a key defensive position.

Dean, who stands at 6-foot-2 and weighs 225 pounds, brings an impressive resume from his time at VMI. As a redshirt junior in 2025, he posted standout numbers—62 solo tackles and 117 total tackles—ranking him among the top FCS players nationally (11th and 10th, respectively). His production also earned him recognition as a three-star transfer by 247Sports, with one year of eligibility remaining.

The Terps' current linebacker corps features a solid trio of inside linebackers in Daniel Wingate, Trey Reddick, and CJ Smith. However, depth behind them is a concern: of the seven other rostered linebackers, only three saw action in multiple games, with two primarily used on special teams. Adding a proven playmaker like Dean could provide a valuable boost, especially if head coach Mike Locksley and his staff see a fit for his high-motor style.

In other Maryland football recruiting news, the Terrapins have made the cut for three-star quarterback recruit Brodie Campbell. The Newnan, Georgia native has narrowed his list to four schools, with Maryland in the mix as he approaches a decision.

Beyond football, Maryland men's basketball alumnus Derik Queen made headlines off the court, hosting a Mother's Day event in Baltimore that gave back to the community. Queen and his mom treated a group of single mothers to a shopping spree, showcasing the Terps' spirit of giving back.
