Missouri high school football team names new head coach

The Lee's Summit West Titans have found their new leader. On Monday, the Missouri high school football program announced via social media that offensive coordinator Benny Palmer will take over as head coach, pending board approval.

Palmer has spent the last three seasons calling plays for the Titans' offense, and the results speak for themselves. This past season, the team averaged nearly 30 points per game, showcasing a dynamic attack that kept opponents on their heels. Now, he steps into the top job with a chance to shape the program's future.

This coaching change comes after a turbulent period for the Titans. Last month, the school parted ways with former head coach Willie Horn and several assistants following an investigation into enrollment infractions. The Missouri State High School Activities Association (MSHSAA) found multiple violations, including residency fraud—using fake leases and utility bills—as well as illegal recruiting and undue influence.

In a letter to families, the school confirmed that, pending MSHSAA approval, the Titans will forfeit all varsity and freshman team victories from the 2025 season. It's a tough blow for a program that had been a rising force in Missouri high school football.

Under Horn, Lee's Summit West posted a 17-25 record over four seasons, but the team was consistently competitive. They finished the 2025 season at 4-7 overall, ranking No. 21 in the state according to the final Massey Rankings. Despite the record, the Titans were a top-25 program, showing the potential Palmer can build on.

Lee's Summit West High School, located in Lee's Summit, Missouri, is known for its academic excellence and strong community pride. The Titans have a tradition of athletic achievement, and with Palmer at the helm, the program is ready to turn the page. As the new head coach said in the announcement, "Titan Nation, let's get to work!"

For fans and alumni, this is a fresh start—and a chance to rally behind a coach who already knows the playbook and the players. The future of Titans football just got a little brighter.
