A major coaching shift is set to shake up Oklahoma high school basketball. Dorrian Williams, the architect of Millwood's recent dynasty, is trading Falcon blue for Titan blue, officially taking over as the next head boys basketball coach at Carl Albert High School.
Williams steps into a role with immense legacy, succeeding the retiring Jay Price, who led the Carl Albert program for an impressive 23 seasons. The move comes on the heels of Williams' own remarkable three-year run at Millwood, where he compiled a stellar 69-16 record and cemented his status as one of the state's top young coaches.
His tenure with the Falcons was nothing short of dominant. After a state runner-up finish in his first season, Williams led Millwood to back-to-back Class 3A state championships, including a historic 19th title for the program this past season—a state record. This championship pedigree earned him The Oklahoman's Super 5 Coach of the Year honors, making him a coveted name in coaching circles.
Williams is no stranger to championship pressure, having experienced it first as a player. He was the floor general for Douglass High School, piloting them to consecutive 4A state titles in 2010 and 2011 before a collegiate career at Missouri State. He later returned to Douglass as an assistant, adding another title to his resume before his successful head coaching debut at Millwood.
In a statement on social media, Williams expressed his enthusiasm for the new challenge: "Honored and excited to accept the opportunity to be a part of something special at Carl Albert High School. A program built on tradition, pride, and excellence and I'm ready to get to work."
This hiring signals an exciting new era for Carl Albert basketball. They are gaining a proven winner who understands how to build and sustain a championship culture, from his days as a star point guard to his current reign as a coaching phenom. The Titans' "Home of Champions" slogan now has a new leader ready to uphold that standard.
