It was a season to remember for Brentford Women, who signed off their London and South East Premier Division campaign in style with a hard-fought 3-1 victory over Millwall Lionesses at St Pauls Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
Under the warm spring sun, Carly Williams' side delivered a composed and determined performance to cap off a promising first season. The star of the show was Asees Sangha, who bagged a brilliant brace, while Ashley Cheatley added a third to seal the win.
From the opening whistle, the Bees looked sharp and took control of the game, pinning Millwall back in their own half as they searched for an early breakthrough. Katie Gilligan came close first, seeing a deflected effort whistle just wide of the post. Not long after, Phillips went on a dazzling run, rounding the goalkeeper only to see her shot cleared off the line.
Millwall had their chances too. A looping corner caused chaos in the Brentford box, but Makeba Black was alert and smashed the ball off the line to keep the scores level heading into the break.
The home side struck first early in the second half, with Ciara Watling reacting quickest to a cross and sliding the ball home. But the Bees responded almost immediately. Sangha stepped up and unleashed a stunning strike from distance to level the scores—her 10th goal of the season.
Brentford pushed for more. Cheatley drilled a powerful shot toward goal, only for Millwall goalkeeper Jessie Deans to produce a fine save. But the Bees weren't to be denied. Sangha popped up again, this time steering a precise header from the edge of the box into the bottom corner to put the visitors ahead.
There was still time for a third. Cheatley pounced on a loose ball, showed quick feet to round the impressive Deans, and slotted home to put the result beyond doubt.
The victory capped off a strong season for the west London side, who still have a chance to finish second in the table. Only Dartford can overtake them, and with two games still in hand for their rivals, the Bees can look back on a campaign full of promise and progress.
