Mike Tomlin is trading in his Steelers headset for a studio microphone, and he couldn't be more pumped about it.
The longtime Pittsburgh coach, who stepped down after 18 seasons, made his first major public appearance in his new role at NBC's annual upfront presentation in New York. Standing on the iconic stage at Radio City Music Hall, Tomlin joined host Mike Tirico and legendary announcer Bob Costas to talk about what's next.
"I'm excited about the new challenge and the new chapter," Tomlin said, his signature calm confidence on full display. "It gives me an opportunity to stay close to the game that we all love, share with fellow lovers, and learn something along the way."
Tomlin will officially debut as part of NBC's "Sunday Night Football" pregame show ahead of Week 1 of the 2026 season. And what a matchup to start with: the New York Giants hosting the Dallas Cowboys under the bright lights of primetime.
Adding extra spice to that opener? It'll be the first game for new Giants head coach John Harbaugh—Tomlin's longtime AFC North rival from his Baltimore Ravens days.
"Oh, it's gonna be great for the Giants," Tomlin said with a knowing smile. "Having competed against him for 18 years over the same divisional territory, one thing I know about his group: they'll certainly be ready. There will be a hard buy-in to the team development process, and they'll be a highly-conditioned group."
Tomlin knows the "SNF" stage well—he appeared on it 41 times as the Steelers' head coach. Now, instead of calling plays from the sideline, he'll be breaking them down for millions of viewers. For football fans and gear lovers alike, it's a fresh chapter for one of the game's most respected voices.
