Mike Perry has a message for Nate Diaz: "My shots ain't for anybody to withstand."
As the two former UFC fighters prepare to collide this Saturday in the MVP MMA 1 welterweight co-main event (streaming live on Netflix), Perry is making it clear he expects a violent ending. The bout takes place at Intuit Dome in Inglewood, California, with plenty of bad blood and even more at stake.
Since leaving the UFC in 2021, Perry has reinvented himself under the BKFC banner, earning the nickname "King of Violence" with a perfect 6-0 record that includes four straight stoppages. His opponent, Diaz, is known for his legendary durability—having been stopped by strikes only twice in his career, once by doctor's stoppage. But Perry isn't impressed.
"I'm not going to start slow," Perry told MMA Junkie during Wednesday's open workout scrum. "I'm going to get in there and get it going, whether that means he's hitting me and that gets me going or I'm landing that range because I'm fast as heck, and I'm in crazy shape. It don't matter."
Perry's confidence is rooted in his power. "I'm going to be catching him. My shots ain't for anybody to withstand. I don't care if you've got durability. I can hit hard enough so, you just got to know how to finish somebody, and I've been doing this a long time. I'm really good at it, I'm one of the best in the world."
Entering as a moderate favorite, Perry is predicting a knockout win with characteristic flair: "Take him to the beach, boys, where I'm going to put him to sleep and when he opens his eyes, he's going to be sipping Mai Tais, and he's going to realize where he woke up at."
While acknowledging Diaz as a "super tough challenge," Perry remains laser-focused. "Nate's a super tough challenge, but I think he looks like a face that I can plant my fist into because that's my job on Saturday, and I'm really good at hitting people in the face and they don't like it."
