Michigan women's basketball is making a bold move to build on its historic success, and it starts with a groundbreaking hire. The Wolverines, fresh off one of the best seasons in program history, have added Sean Bair as both an assistant coach and the team's first-ever general manager.

Bair joins the staff after two seasons as an assistant coach at Penn State, where he played a key role in developing All-Big Ten honoree Gracie Merkle, who led the nation in field goal percentage. His resume also includes stops at Monmouth and as a graduate assistant for Arkansas' men's team, giving him a diverse perspective on player development and game strategy.

"I am thrilled to join the University of Michigan," Bair said. "It is an honor, and I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to work alongside Coach Arico and her outstanding staff. Michigan is a special place with championship standards, rich tradition and a clear vision for continued success that I am excited to help advance. My family and I cannot wait to experience all that Michigan has to offer and become part of the Ann Arbor community. Go Blue."

The Wolverines are coming off a stellar 28-7 campaign in 2025-26 that saw them reach the Elite Eight for just the second time in program history, falling to Texas one game short of the national semifinals. With four starters returning—including Olivia Olson (18.9 ppg), Syla Swords (14.6), Mila Holloway (12.3), and Te'Yala Delfosse (8.7)—the team has every reason to believe it can make another deep postseason run.

Adding to the excitement, Michigan also landed Stanford transfer Courtney Ogden, who averaged 12.9 points, 4.3 rebounds, 2.1 assists, and 1.1 steals per game last season. Her experience and versatility will be a major boost to an already talented roster.

As general manager, Bair will focus on roster management, recruiting, and the strategic direction of the program—a role that's becoming increasingly important in the modern era of college basketball. Whether he's coaching players on the court or shaping the team's future off it, Bair's arrival signals that Michigan is serious about staying at the top. For fans, it's another reason to be excited about what's next in Ann Arbor.
