Big news for Michigan State football fans—the Spartans are stacking their future schedules with some serious competition. The university announced Thursday that MSU has locked in home-and-home series against both Oklahoma State and Cincinnati, adding major non-conference firepower to the coming years.
First up, the Spartans will travel to Stillwater to face the Cowboys on September 16, 2028, before hosting them in East Lansing on September 15, 2029. This marks the first-ever meeting between the two programs, and it came together after Oklahoma State had a slot open up when their series with Alabama was canceled. It's a fresh matchup that's sure to draw plenty of attention from college football fans.
Then, in the early 2030s, MSU will head to Cincinnati on September 14, 2030, and welcome the Bearcats to Spartan Stadium on September 13, 2031. Despite being regional neighbors and sharing a connection through former coach Mark Dantonio, these two teams have only faced off twice before—way back in 1930 (a 32-0 MSU win) and 1946 (an 18-7 loss), both played in East Lansing. This series promises to rekindle that old rivalry with a modern twist.
In addition to those marquee matchups, Michigan State will also host Duquesne of the Football Championship Subdivision on September 4, 2027, marking the first time the two schools have ever played.
As the Spartans look to bounce back from a 4-8 season, all eyes are on the start of the Pat Fitzgerald era, which kicks off on September 5 against Toledo at Spartan Stadium. With these new additions, the future is shaping up to be an exciting ride for MSU football—and a great reason to gear up in your favorite Spartan apparel for seasons to come.
