The final buzzer has sounded on the Michigan high school boys basketball season, and the prestigious Michigan Sports Writers Association has unveiled its Division 1 All-State teams, headlined by a familiar star.

East Lansing senior KJ Torbert, fresh off being crowned Michigan Mr. Basketball in March, has added another major accolade to his trophy case. The dynamic guard was named the Division 1 Player of the Year after a spectacular season where he averaged 25.8 points and 6.2 rebounds per game, showcasing his range by knocking down 58 three-pointers.

Torbert, a Bowling Green signee, was the driving force behind an East Lansing squad that finished the year 27-2 and battled its way to the state championship game. There, they fell just short in a 54-50 thriller against a disciplined Rockford team.

That Rockford squad also earned significant recognition, with Kyle Clough receiving the Division 1 Coach of the Year honor for guiding his team to the state title. The complete all-state teams, selected by a panel of 13 sports writers, honor the top talent from one of the most competitive divisions in the state.

This announcement concludes a week of honors, following the release of the Division 2, 3, and 4 boys teams. The spotlight now shifts to the girls' basketball all-state teams, set to be revealed next week.
