Michigan assistant coach Mike Boynton has now fired back with force, dismissing the claims as pure "nonsense" and "lies." In a candid conversation with CBS Sports, Boynton attributed the noise to jealousy, particularly from fanbases of in-state rival Michigan State and perennial foe Ohio State.

Boynton defended head coach Dusty May's aggressive approach in the transfer portal, framing it as a necessary rebuild. "Instead of trying his hardest to keep every player on an 8-24 team, he allowed the guys who wanted to leave to leave," Boynton stated. The strategy was to be competitive in the portal to quickly revitalize the program, a common practice in today's college basketball landscape.

He saved his strongest criticism for the nature of the accusations themselves, calling out specific fabricated rumors. "People making up just complete lies about the guys we were trying to supposedly tamper with," Boynton said, citing unfounded stories about Purdue guard Braden Smith as an example.
