When it comes to capturing the nation's attention on the hardwood, no one did it better than the Michigan Wolverines this past season. Fresh off cutting down the nets for their second national championship in program history, the team has another title to celebrate: the most-watched team in all of college basketball.

According to new data released by Nielsen for the 2025-26 campaign, Michigan men's basketball led all teams with an average of 3.353 million viewers per broadcast. The Wolverines edged out a star-studded field, finishing ahead of perennial powerhouses Duke (2.965 million), defending champion UConn (2.842 million), Purdue (2.554 million), and Illinois (2.377 million) in the top five.

The viewership crown, which tracked linear TV from November through the NCAA Tournament's conclusion in April, was undoubtedly powered by Michigan's magical March run. The championship-clinching 69-63 victory over UConn was a massive draw, averaging 18.3 million viewers and becoming the most-watched title game since 2019, with a peak of 20.4 million fans tuning in. Their thrilling Final Four win over Arizona also captivated 14.2 million viewers.

Adding a unique layer of nostalgia, the "Fab Five" altcast during the national semifinal—featuring Michigan legends Chris Webber, Jalen Rose, Juwan Howard, Jimmy King, and Ray Jackson—became the most-watched alternate broadcast on TNT Sports in eight years, proving the enduring power of the Maize and Blue brand.

The television success story extended to the women's game as well, where another Big Ten school led the way. The UCLA Bruins, who captured the women's national championship, averaged 1.666 million viewers to top that list, followed by South Carolina, Texas, UConn, and Notre Dame.

This historic dual viewership achievement underscores a monumental year for Big Ten basketball. Michigan's title ended a 25-year men's championship drought for the conference, while UCLA's win snapped a 26-year wait on the women's side. It was a season where legacy programs not only won on the court but also won over the hearts and screens of millions of fans across the country.
