BREAKING: Michigan Basketball freshman Winters Grady is entering the transfer portal. STORY:

The Michigan Wolverines' offseason has begun with a notable roster move, as freshman guard/forward Winters Grady has entered the NCAA transfer portal. This marks the first departure for the program via the portal this cycle, signaling the start of what is always a pivotal period for team building in modern college basketball.

Grady's freshman season in Ann Arbor was unfortunately marred by injury. The 6-foot-6 wing appeared in only nine games for the 2025-26 campaign before a recurring foot issue sidelined him for the remainder of the year. In his limited action, he shot 7-of-20 from the field and 6-of-19 from three-point range.

The persistent injury was a significant hurdle for the young player. Grady previously detailed the challenge on a podcast, explaining, "I’ve had ongoing foot issues since... really my freshman year of high school. It’s never fully recovered and I’ve just had to kind of battle that since." His priority now will be finding a program where he can achieve full health and unlock the potential that made him a coveted recruit.

That potential was considerable. Coming out of high school, Grady was rated a four-star prospect and the No. 95 overall player in his class, renowned for his shooting upside. His offer list included heavyweights like Oregon, USC, and Oklahoma, highlighting the widespread belief in his talent before he chose the Maize and Blue.

For Michigan fans and the program, this move opens up a scholarship and creates an opportunity to add new pieces to the roster. For Winters Grady, we wish him success in finding the right fit to overcome his injuries and showcase the skills that once made him a top-100 talent. His journey is a reminder of the resilience required both on and off the court.
