Michelle Wie West is stepping back into the spotlight—not for a full-time comeback, but for a special role that blends her legacy with the future of the game. The five-time LPGA winner and mother of two will serve as a playing host at the 2026 Mizuho Americas Open, marking a heartfelt return to competitive golf on her own terms.
Wie West, now 36, announced her plans during the event's media day at Mountain Ridge Country Club in West Caldwell, New Jersey. She'll compete on a sponsor invitation at the tournament, which runs May 7-10—just a month before this year's historic U.S. Women's Open at Riviera Country Club. "This is not, like, a comeback by any means," she clarified, emphasizing that her schedule is intentionally limited.
Her connection to the U.S. Women's Open runs deep. As the 2014 champion at Pinehurst No. 2, she still holds a 10-year exemption, extended by her maternity leave. Wie West and her husband, Jonnie, welcomed their son Jagger in October 2024, joining big sister Makenna, now 5. The Mizuho event is especially meaningful because it pairs LPGA pros with top junior players from the AJGA, giving tomorrow's stars a rare chance to compete alongside one of the most iconic figures in modern golf.
Wie West has been quietly preparing, practicing hard at home in Las Vegas and recently taking her clubs to Augusta, Georgia, for the first time. She played Augusta Country Club and West Lake Country Club, and after mentioning on Golf Channel that she hadn't yet played Augusta National, invitations quickly followed. Perhaps one day she'll return there with Makenna for the Drive, Chip and Putt National Finals—her daughter has already taken up golf, along with basketball, tennis, and flag football.
Every night before bed, Wie West and Makenna talk about their days. This spring, mom has plenty of new stories to share.
