Michael Claybrooks, a Hillsboro graduate, has been hired as McGavock's new boys basketball coach.

McGavock High School has found its new leader on the hardwood, hiring Hillsboro graduate Michael Claybrooks as the Raiders' next TSSAA boys basketball coach, as announced by Metro Nashville Public Schools on May 14.

With over two decades of coaching experience, Claybrooks brings a wealth of knowledge to the program. His resume includes assistant coaching stints at Christ Presbyterian Academy and extensive work at the AAU level, where he coached for the Mookie Betts Travel Club—a program known for its focus on advanced skill development.

"I am extremely thankful to be chosen to serve the Nashville community as the McGavock High School head basketball coach," Claybrooks said in a statement. "I am honored for the opportunity to lead this program and build a winning culture that is process driven. I am a transformational leader that will build a program with value-based principles that will help students to be successful in life."

Claybrooks takes over a Raiders program that struggled to a 1-19 record last season. However, McGavock's basketball history includes a storied past—the team's last state tournament appearance came in 1976, when they captured the Class AAA state championship. It's a legacy Claybrooks is eager to revive.

"I would like to thank Mr. Bruce Jackson and the entire administration for believing in me to get this basketball program where it should be. It's a new day at McGavock High School. Check Ball!!" Claybrooks added.

For a program looking to rebuild and reclaim its former glory, Claybrooks' mix of experience, developmental focus, and passion for the game could be the spark the Raiders need. As the new season approaches, all eyes will be on McGavock to see how this new era unfolds.
