Manchester United are preparing to face Sunderland at the Stadium of Light on Saturday, 9 May, in the Premier League. A win this weekend could all but confirm the Red Devils’ position in third place...

When Dimitar Berbatov speaks, Manchester United fans listen. And the Bulgarian legend has just delivered a ringing endorsement for caretaker manager Michael Carrick that's got the football world talking.

As United gear up for a crucial Premier League clash against Sunderland at the Stadium of Light this Saturday, the stakes couldn't be higher. A victory would all but lock in third place for the Red Devils—a remarkable turnaround from last season's dismal 15th-place finish under former boss Ruben Amorim.

It's been quite the rollercoaster. Amorim was shown the door in January after a lackluster 14-month stint, and Carrick stepped in as interim manager. What happened next was nothing short of electric: 10 wins and two draws in 14 games, breathing new life into a squad that had looked lost.

Now, with the permanent manager decision looming at season's end, Berbatov has weighed in with some powerful words. Speaking to The Athletic, the former United striker didn't mince words: "United were in a bad situation before, now we are third, and we are going to qualify for the Champions League. So if that's not Michael Carrick and his team doing the right job, I don't know what it is."

Berbatov, who shared the pitch with Carrick 104 times during their playing days, knows a thing or two about what makes a great football mind. The duo even combined for four goals together, so his perspective carries serious weight.

The Bulgarian highlighted how Carrick has squeezed every drop of potential from the same squad that struggled under Amorim. "The players are the same from Amorim, but you can see the clear difference in how the team is playing," Berbatov observed. "Sometimes it's not even about tactics; it's about the manager's ability to communicate."

For fans wondering whether Carrick deserves the full-time gig, Berbatov's message is clear: "I truly hope that whoever needs to decide their next coach says, 'Michael, you've done a terrific job, pulled us out of a difficult situation, and you deserve to continue.'"

But the former striker also offered a word of caution: "That's logical thinking. But sometimes in football, logic is not present."

As United prepare to take on Sunderland, all eyes will be on Carrick's touchline presence. Whether logic prevails or not, one thing's for sure—this team is playing with a fire we haven't seen in years. And that's something every Red Devil can get behind.
