When you first lay eyes on Miami Dolphins rookie edge rusher Mason Reiger, it's hard not to notice his imposing frame. He's built like a WWE superstar—and that comparison isn't entirely off base.
"Actually, Kevin Coleman used to call me that when we were teammates back at Louisville," Reiger laughed, referring to a fellow Dolphins rookie. "So that's funny."
Reiger, who went undrafted out of Wisconsin, has a real shot at making the Dolphins' roster. His size and skill set are reminiscent of another Badger standout—T.J. Watt—and he'll be wearing the same No. 90 jersey that made Watt a household name in Pittsburgh. It's a bold statement for an undrafted rookie, but Reiger has the background to back it up, having trained with Watt himself.
So why did he slip through the draft? The answer lies in his medical history.
"Leg, foot," Reiger explained after the first day of Dolphins' rookie minicamp. "Yeah, basically everything on my right side, mainly my knee. But like I said, 100% now, super blessed in that aspect."
For a team always looking to bolster its pass rush, a healthy Reiger could be a steal. His journey from Wisconsin to Miami is one to watch—and if he channels even a fraction of Watt's intensity, Dolphins fans might have a new favorite player to cheer for this season.
