The New York Mets are shaking things up by calling up their top prospect, A.J. Ewing—and fans have every reason to be excited. According to a report from Will Sammon, the 21-year-old phenom is finally getting his shot in the big leagues.

Drafted in the fourth round back in 2023, Ewing has been on a tear that’s only gotten better since his breakout minor league season last year. After finishing the 2025 campaign in Double-A Binghamton—thanks to two earlier promotions—he started the 2026 season right back where he left off. And he didn’t disappoint. Ewing posted a scorching .349/.481/.571 slash line, with two home runs and 12 stolen bases, earning himself a quick ticket to Triple-A Syracuse.

Since arriving in Syracuse, Ewing has kept the momentum rolling. In 12 games at the highest level of the minors, he’s hit .326/.392/.435 and swiped five more bags—bringing his season total to 17 steals while being caught just once. The only thing missing? A home run at Triple-A, but with his speed and on-base skills, he’s been a constant threat on the basepaths.

Ewing’s versatility is a huge plus for the Mets. He’s spent most of this season patrolling center field, but he’s also logged significant time at second base and both outfield corners during his professional career. That flexibility could be a game-changer for a Mets lineup that’s been struggling to find consistency.

It’s still unclear who will be sent down or released to make room for Ewing on the active roster, but given the team’s offensive woes, the Mets have plenty of options to clear a spot. One thing’s for sure: when Ewing steps onto the field, he’ll be wearing the same threads you can find right here—because every star needs the right gear to shine.
