The New York Mets have been trying to get Jorge Polanco back on the field, but now he has a wrist problem, too.

The New York Mets' search for stability at first base has hit another frustrating snag. Offseason acquisition Jorge Polanco, already hampered by ankle issues, is now dealing with a right wrist injury, further complicating the team's early-season plans.

The new ailment surfaced following Tuesday's game against the Dodgers, where Polanco went hitless. While the Mets awaited MRI results, manager Carlos Mendoza confirmed the wrist had not improved, leading to Polanco being scratched from Wednesday's lineup against the Cubs. "The [Achilles] is in a better place," Mendoza said, "but now he’s dealing with a right wrist that is keeping him from at least the lineup today."

Signed to a two-year, $40 million deal to help fill the void left by Pete Alonso, Polanco's start has been a struggle on both sides of the ball. His defensive upgrade was a key selling point, but at the plate, a sluggish .179/.246/.286 slash line through 14 games has contributed to the team's offensive woes.

The Mets now face a critical decision: rest or the injured list. Mendoza emphasized a cautious approach, stating, "Before we make that final decision, we want to make sure we know what we’re dealing with." The hope is that a clear diagnosis will provide a path to getting their intended first baseman fully healthy and back on the field, where the Mets need him most.
