Mets finally able to 'turn the page,' finish off much-needed series win over Angels

Just hours after wasting a handful of opportunities in a walk-off extra-inning loss to the Angels, the Mets answered right back with a huge 5-1 victory on Sunday.

After a heartbreaking walk-off loss in extra innings just hours earlier, the New York Mets showed exactly the kind of resilience their fans have been waiting for. On Sunday, they bounced back with authority, securing a much-needed 5-1 victory over the Los Angeles Angels to clinch just their second series win since April 5—and only their fourth of the season.

The win was a testament to the team's ability to "turn the page," as manager Carlos Mendoza put it. "Last night was a tough one for us," Mendoza said. "I'm glad that we were able to come back with the quick turnaround and just get out and get the job done—it was good to see." Infielder Mark Vientos echoed that sentiment, adding, "That's the name of the game. Just putting yesterday behind us and focusing on the next."

Vientos was the offensive spark the Mets desperately needed, delivering a powerful performance with two two-run homers. Over his last 12 games, he's hitting .275 with five extra-base hits and an .891 OPS—a promising sign for a lineup that has struggled to find consistency.

On the mound, Clay Holmes continued his ace-like start to the season, tossing 6.2 innings of one-run ball. His performance was backed by stellar defense, including a spectacular diving catch by Carson Benge in the bottom of the ninth. "I thought we played a pretty good game defensively," Mendoza said. Holmes added, "A guy like me, I need the defense. Just to see them out there giving it everything they have and working like they are—it was fun and really good to see."

Despite the encouraging all-around effort, the Mets know they have a long road ahead. Sitting at 12-22, they're focused on building momentum. "The only thing it does is make our flight happier, that's about it," Vientos said. "We've got to win tomorrow." Mendoza summed it up: "That's what it's going to take. One series at a time, one game at a time."
