A FIFA policy requires the Meadowlands venue to strip its corporate name before hosting eight matches starting in June, including the July 19 final.

Drivers cruising past the Meadowlands on Route 3 and billions of global soccer fans tuning into the World Cup this summer will notice something missing: the iconic MetLife Stadium name. In a temporary but significant change, the home of the New York Jets and Giants will be known as "New York New Jersey Stadium" for the duration of the tournament.

This switch isn't a marketing rebrand but a strict FIFA policy. World Cup venues are prohibited from displaying corporate names to protect the exclusive branding rights of FIFA's official sponsors. While the stadium sits firmly in East Rutherford, New Jersey, the official naming order still places "New York" first—a familiar slight for local sports fans.

The policy is a standard part of FIFA's global event playbook, ensuring a clean, sponsor-controlled environment around its marquee matches. For approximately five weeks, from the opening match on June 13 between Brazil and Morocco to the World Cup Final on July 19, the MetLife logos will be covered.

This represents a notable branding shift for the venue, which has carried the MetLife name since 2011 under a lucrative 25-year deal worth an estimated $17-20 million annually to the Jets and Giants. While the corporate name is sidelined, the stadium's moment on the world stage is immense. FIFA anticipates a global audience of over six billion for the tournament, with more than 1.5 billion viewers expected for the final alone—making this temporary name one of the most visible in sports this summer.
