Angel Reese is rewriting the playbook on what it means to be a modern sports star. At just 22 years old, the WNBA forward has already built an empire of side ventures while carving her own path in the league. Now, she's making headlines again—this time for how she plans to handle the media.

During a candid appearance on former First Lady Michelle Obama's podcast, Reese revealed a bold new strategy for the upcoming season with the Atlanta Dream. "I'll take a fine before I have to go media and feel like my back is against the wall," she said, signaling a shift in how athletes can protect their mental health.

The response was immediate and supportive. Craig Robinson, Michelle Obama's brother and podcast co-host, half-jokingly offered to cover any fines Reese might incur. But the most powerful endorsement came from soccer legend Megan Rapinoe, who praised Reese's approach on her show A Touch More.

"I think Angel is a really great example of her taking her power back," Rapinoe said. "Angel was set up as a villain before she was even in the WNBA, and now she's making it clear that she's gonna protect her peace. The media landscape is changing rapidly in women's sports, and of course, the W, as always, is out front."

Reese's journey hasn't been easy. During her college days at LSU and early in her WNBA career with the Chicago Sky, she faced relentless criticism and even fabricated headlines, often fueled by her high-profile rivalry with Caitlin Clark. The scrutiny took a toll, leading her to request a trade to the Atlanta Dream this offseason for a fresh start.

Rapinoe emphasized that Reese isn't rejecting media altogether. "Angel isn't saying that she'll never do media, but she is saying that she won't just stand up and take anything that's thrown at her."

While WNBA players are typically required to participate in press conferences and media availabilities—rules enforced by team PR staff and developed with league media partners—Rapinoe argues it's time for a rethink. "Athletes can and should reconsider what's expected of them," she said, adding that Reese is setting "a great example for all athletes."

For fans and players alike, Reese's stance marks a new chapter in athlete empowerment—one where protecting your peace is just as important as protecting your game.
