Another thrilling Indiana high school basketball season is in the books, and East Central Indiana was once again at the heart of the action. The hardwood heroes have been crowned, and it's time to celebrate the standout performers who defined the 2025-26 campaign.
The season was marked by championship glory, with three local teams securing sectional titles: Delta in Class 3A, Blackford in 2A, and Monroe Central in 1A. The success didn't stop there, as both Delta and Monroe Central powered through to claim regional championships, showcasing the deep talent and resilience within these programs.
It's no surprise, then, that this year's top individual honors come from these winning traditions. Leading the charge is Monroe Central senior Ta'Shaun Beatty, named The Star Press 2025-26 Boys Basketball Player of the Year. For the second consecutive season, a Golden Bear takes home this prestigious award, as Beatty follows his former teammate, Easton Foster.
Beatty's season was nothing short of dominant. He averaged a formidable 17.6 points per game on an incredibly efficient 62% shooting from the field. But where he truly separated himself was on the glass, leading the entire state of Indiana with a staggering 14.8 rebounds per game. His consistency was remarkable, recording a double-double in 20 of Monroe Central's 26 games, including five separate 20-point, 20-rebound performances. This honor also completes a Monroe Central sweep, following sophomore Abe Ervin's Girls Player of the Year award.
Earning Coach of the Year honors is Delta's Mark Detweiler, who masterfully guided a young Eagles squad. Despite graduating four senior starters and fielding a team with minimal prior varsity experience, Detweiler led Delta to a 16-11 record, another deep run to the Class 3A elite eight, and a fourth Delaware County Tournament title under his leadership. This season also saw him reach the monumental milestone of 400 career wins, a testament to his enduring excellence and program-building prowess.
These award winners headline the full All-Area teams, which honor the top 11 players nominated from across the region. Their dedication, skill, and relentless effort on the court have set a new standard and provided unforgettable moments for fans throughout an incredible season.
